One of the best things about Los Angeles is the beautiful and consistent weather. Even as the colder months approach, LA makes outdoor play possible year round. This is a huge advantage for all of our fur babies! Here are some dog parks and dog friendly areas to check out around Los Angeles!
1. Laurel Canyon Dog Park — 8260 Mulholland Dr, Los Angeles
Located at the top of the famous Mulholland Drive, this 3-acre dog park makes for a unique location and has some pretty incredible views of Los Angeles. This dog park has sectioned off areas, making it possible for the smaller or shyer dogs to enjoy a fenced off spot at the park. Fun fact: the Laurel Canyon Dog Park was the first dog park in Los Angeles and remains wildly popular to this day- meaning your pup will always have a mate to play with.
Additionally, it’s important to be cautious here, as the canyon is home to native wildlife. Stay within the park's lines and be sure to look out for snakes and coyotes, especially during the early morning and evening hours.
2. Leo Carrillo State Park, North Beach — 3500 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu
While Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu is not an off-leash area, it sure provides the ultimate California experience for you and your pup. Take your dog for a long, serene stroll while also exploring the caves and tide pools!
Pro tip: Go here at a low tide so you and your dog can explore the amazing wonders that this beach has to offer, specifically at an area called Sequit Point, where you can see gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and is named one of Malibu’s must-see sights! Another tip is to pack booties to protect your dog's paws from rocks and crevices.
3. Runyon Canyon Dog Park — 2000 N Fuller Ave, Los Angeles
Right in the heart of Hollywood, the Runyon Canyon Dog Park has ample room for your pup to run and play. This off-leash dog park in Los Angeles also provides a glorious view of the classic Hollywood homes right on the hillside nearby. While your dog runs around and socializes, make sure to snag a shady spot under a pergola or a bench. There is only one water station out there so make sure to bring plenty of water so both you and your dog stay hydrated.
4. Rosie’s Dog Beach — 5000 E Ocean Blvd Long Beach, CA
As the only legal off-leash beach in LA county, this 4-acre stretch of fun is home for dogs who love to run in the sand and splash in the ocean. With big parking, accessible restrooms, and plenty of room to run around, this is the ideal beach for dog lovers and their fur babies.
5. The Barrington Dog Park — 333 S Barrington Ave Los Angeles, CA 90049
If you live on the westside of Los Angeles, this dog park is perfect for you. At 1.5 acres, this dog park is a bit more intimate but there is still plenty of space for your pup to roam around. This dog park provides trash cans and poop scoopers everywhere so the space remains clean, plenty of water bowls/stations, and leftover tennis balls for fetch! There is also a fenced off area for the smaller and shyer dogs to play in.
Hot tip: If your pup is a social butterfly, come around 12:30 pm to catch the dog walkers stroll in with around 8-10 dogs each. It's paw-ty!
